The vineyard at Wild Cattle Creek is a relatively young planting: established in 2002. The fruit for the range of Wild Cattle Creek wines comes from the Langbrook Estate vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley which was established in the 1980's and is one of the largest vineyards in the region.
History of Wild Cattle Creek
Wild Cattle Creek, whilst being one of the newest wineries in the Yarra Valley wine growing region, is surrounded by history and heritage that has stamped its place as one of the world's premium wine regions.
The Yarra Valley was first planted in the late 19th century, yet the industry fell on hard times and was virtually abandoned during the 1920's when timber became the primary focus of attention. Logging in the Warburton and Marysville areas remained the mainstay of commerce until the 1960's when Dr McMahon replanted on a small estate in Seville. Soon, growers returned to the Valley and the region was revitalised as one of Australia's favourite tourist regions and grape growing areas. Today, the Yarra Valley proudly boasts an ecclectic mix of over 70 boutique and large wineries, growers, and a host of fascinating tourism activities. The annual celebration of vintners, 'GRAPE GRAZING', is one of the regions most successful events held over two days in February each year, just prior to vintage.

Wild Cattle Creek Vineyard
The fruit for Wild Cattle Creek wines is sourced from the family vineyard "Langbrook Estate" situated between Yarra Junction and Gladysdale in the Upper Yarra Valley. This is an ideal location for cold climate plantings, and the predominantly north facing vineyards collect the sun year round. Varieties grown at Langbrook include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The vineyard at "Langbrook Estate" occupies around 90 acres and has been established for over 15 years. Premium fruit is grown for Domain Chandon and BRL Hardy, whilst the balance of each vintage is retained for Wild Cattle Creek's range of premium wines.
The 650 acre "Langbrook Estate" is also home to Kalinka Stud Charolais cattle. Kalinka enjoy much success in the show ring, and their bloodlines are keenly sought by breeders throughout Australia.
The Wild Cattle Creek vineyard was established in 2002 with varieties Pinot Gris and Merlot grown.
Wild Cattle Creek has recently been awarded two medals from the prestigious 2005 Yarra Valley Wine Show:
2004 Wild Cattle Creek Sauvignon Blanc - GOLD MEDAL
2005 Wild Cattle Creek Sauvignon Blanc - BRONZE MEDAL
